Eni Kicks Off Baleine Phase 2 with Naming Ceremony for new FPSO and FSO Units

25 Jul 2024 | Upstream

Eni marked a significant milestone this week with the naming ceremony of two critical vessels, FPSO Petrojarl Kong and FSO Yamoussoukro, in Dubai. Both units are poised to support production growth from the producing Baleine field, located offshore Côte d'Ivoire - the largest discovery ever made in the country.

Attended by key dignitaries including Mamadou Sangafowa Coulibaly, Côte d'Ivoire's Minister of Petroleum, Mines and Energy, and Fatoumata Sanogo, CEO of state-owned Petroci, the ceremony highlighted Eni's commitment to enhancing energy production in West Africa.

Phase 2, characterized by its record pace akin to Phase 1, signifies a monumental leap forward amidst challenging market conditions. Following their refurbishment, FPSO Petrojarl Kong and FSO Yamoussoukro are slated to depart for Côte d'Ivoire, anchoring approximately 50km from the coastline alongside FPSO Baleine, operational since August 2023.

Scheduled for startup in December 2024, Phase 2 promises to elevate production levels substantially. Upon completion, the Baleine field's output will surge to 60,000 barrels of oil per day alongside 70 million cubic feet of associated gas, significantly augmenting current production capacities.

Moreover, the Baleine project embodies Eni's commitment to bolstering Côte d'Ivoire's stature within the regional and international energy markets. Pioneering the adoption of cutting-edge technologies and industry-leading initiatives, the project is set to become Africa's first net zero-emission Upstream development (Scope 1 and 2), reinforcing sustainability benchmarks in the sector.

Eni's steadfast presence in Côte d'Ivoire since 2015 underscores its extensive equity production of approximately 22,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day across six deepwater blocks. Partnering closely with Petroci Holding, Eni remains actively engaged in diverse sectors ranging from hydrocarbon production to biorefining initiatives like vegetable oil production. Concurrently, the company's commitment extends to enhancing socio-economic dimensions through initiatives aimed at improving health, education, and vocational training, thereby fostering holistic development across the country.

In essence, the christening of FPSO Petrojarl Kong and FSO Yamoussoukro heralds a new era of energy excellence and sustainability, epitomizing Eni's steadfast commitment to innovation, partnership, and responsible resource utilization in Côte d'Ivoire and beyond.
