Multi-Client multibeam and seep sampling project offshore Côte d'Ivoire

Harvex Geosolutions, a UK-based geophysical services company, has announced an agreement with the Ivorian authorities to acquire offshore data in Côte d'Ivoire, aiming to boost the country's hydrocarbon potential.

The company will work with joint-venture partners Trois Geoconsulting and GeoPartners Limited to manage the data acquisition, marketing, and licensing of the project, according to a press release last week.

The Multi-Client multibeam and seep sampling project will cover an area of about 41,000 square kilometers over water depths ranging from 750 to 3,500 meters, with the option to extend to the deep-water blocks in the south, subject to client demand.

The project will also collect 240 piston core samples from the seafloor, which will be analyzed for hydrocarbon indicators, such as age, API, and source type. The data will help improve the geological and geophysical understanding of the basin and reduce the exploration risk.

The data acquisition is expected to start in the second quarter of 2024 and take about 120 days. The company is currently seeking client sponsorship for the project. Côte d'Ivoire has become a hot exploration frontier in West Africa since Eni SpA, Italy 's largest energy company, made the major Baleine discovery in 2021. The field is estimated to hold 2.5 billion barrels of oil, with 3.3 Tcf of gas. Eni started production from Baleine in August 2023, using a fast-track development approach and a net-zero emissions goal.
