PANEL DISCUSSION

African Exploration: Unveiling the Latest Trends in Frontier Exploration and ILX exploration and development, future strategies from the operators

Exploration activity continues to recover onshore and offshore Africa, with frontier drilling overtaking infrastructure-led exploration (ILX) in 2023. While high-impact drilling used to be led by independents, IOCs have been leading the revival of African exploration since 2021. After yet another exciting year for exploratory drilling, AOW brings you Africa‘s most active exploration companies to discuss their discoveries, drilling results and upcoming campaigns from the continent’s most active frontiers.

Key discussion points:

  • What are the latest trends in exploratory drilling? Panellists share updates on their current exploration programmes and activities.

  • What are the main technical, environmental, and regulatory challenges associated with conducting oil & gas exploration in frontier areas of Africa, and how can these challenges be effectively addressed?

  • How does the availability and development of infrastructure (such as pipelines, ports, and storage facilities) impact the feasibility and success of oil & gas exploration in remote or underdeveloped regions of Africa?

  • What are the key considerations for investors and stakeholders when assessing the risks and rewards of frontier oil & gas exploration projects in Africa, and how can risk management strategies be improved?

  • How can oil & gas exploration projects in frontier areas of Africa effectively engage local communities, promote sustainable development, and minimize environmental impacts?
