PANEL DISCUSSION: Exploring and Producing Gas: Economics of Developing Africa‘s Gas Sector

Long considered a by-product of oil production, natural gas is becoming a prized commodity across Africa. However, and while monetising gas has become an integral part of Africa‘s energy ambitions, the economics of gas make projects a lot more complex to finance and execute. To unpack the dynamics of Africa‘s gas sector, we bring together the leading gas explorers, producers, and asset developers on the continent.

Key areas of discussion:
•    What are the critical infrastructure needs for developing natural gas resources in Africa, and how can regional cooperation enhance infrastructure development to improve market access and export opportunities?
•    How can natural gas exploration and production in Africa be conducted sustainably, considering environmental impacts and community interests? What strategies can companies adopt to gain and maintain social license to operate?
•    What role does technological innovation play in enhancing the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of natural gas exploration and production in Africa? How can African countries leverage technological advancements to optimize resource extraction?
•    With the global shift towards renewable energy sources, what are the implications for natural gas exploration and production in Africa? How can African countries position themselves to navigate these market dynamics and maximize the value of their natural gas resources?
