Morocco: Chariot commences onshore drilling at Loukos license

This significant development follows the company’s acquisition of the license in 2023, marking a pivotal step in unlocking multiple drill-ready prospects and bolstering Morocco’s gas production capabilities.

Chariot Limited, the transitional energy group with a strategic focus on Africa, has announced the initiation of drilling operations at the Loukos Onshore license in Morocco. The company is targeting the promising Gaufrette prospect with the RZK-1 well, drilled by Star Valley Drilling’s 101 rig.

This significant development follows the company’s acquisition of the license in 2023, marking a pivotal step in unlocking multiple drill-ready prospects and bolstering Morocco’s gas production capabilities.

The Gaufrette Main target, located immediately updip of the LNB-1 well—a well that previously confirmed gas and reservoir presence—holds Best Estimate recoverable prospective resources of 10 billion cubic feet (Bcf). The drilling campaign presents an opportunity to explore a deeper target, identified on reprocessed 3D seismic data, potentially increasing the resource estimate to 26 Bcf for the area.
"We are very pleased to commence this onshore campaign, kicking off the first of our exciting drilling operations for Chariot this year,” Technical Director of Chariot, Duncan Wallace said in a company statement.

“We also continue to work up the prospectivity across this acreage as we see significant upside both in the vicinity of our high graded well locations and beyond. I would like to thank our operational team for their hard work and efforts in getting this drilling underway within ten months of licence award and ONHYM for their ongoing support and partnership.”

Chariot is currently betting on high-value, low-risk gas development projects in Morocco, to unlock early monetization and exploration upside. A successful drilling at Gaufrette would materially derisk adjacent prospects, setting a strong foundation for Chariot’s future explorations.

Meanwhile, the company and its new partner Energean are also expected to resume drilling at Anchois, just offshore of the Loukos license, later this year.
