Spotlight on Nigeria: Africa Oil Week 2023 welcomes strong participation from Africa’s biggest oil & gas producing market

Nigeria is in the middle of profound transformations following the adoption of the Petroleum Industry Act in 2021, the Electricity Act in 2023, and the recent removal of its multi-billion dollars subsidies on gasoline. To present the wide range of investment and business opportunities that these developments offer, Africa Oil Week 2023 will once again welcome an extensive line up of Nigerian operators and energy companies.

Already confirmed participants, including Seplat Energy, Oando, ND Western, Green Energy International, and Platform Petroleum represent some of the country’s fastest-growing energy companies and are present across onshore and offshore, oil and natural gas, large and marginal fields areas.

They are coming to Africa Oil Week at a crucial time for Africa’s biggest oil & gas producing market as the administration of President Tinubu focuses on increasing production by fighting crude theft and bringing back investments across the value-chain. A new regulatory environment is opening several opportunities to expand energy infrastructure and increase output on the back of stronger commodity prices.

Nigerian independents, who have taken over several blocks from international oil companies (IOCs) in the past and continue to expand their portfolios, offer some of the most attractive partnership, business, and investment opportunities on the continent.

In addition, the launch of the Decade of Gas in 2020 and the removal of gasoline subsidies in 2023 are providing a unique playground to grow investments in natural gas to boost power supply and support industrialization. With over 200 Tcf of proven gas reserves, Nigeria holds the biggest gas potential on the continent and is embarking on several domestic and regional gas projects that will support energy access at home while driving gas exports to Africa and the world.

To fully showcase Nigeria’s potential, Africa Oil Week 2023 has created a programme that allows its audience to engage with Nigerian players and hear from the most dynamic Nigerian companies throughout its conference. A Country Spotlight on Nigeria will take place on October 11th, 2023, but Nigeria will also be represented within key sessions and panels on gas, decarbonization, and the energy transition both at Africa Oil Week and the Green Energy Africa Summit.
