AOW 2023 Highlights Exploration Potential of Somalia & Horn of Africa's

AOW 2023 will be featuring key presentations on the growing exploration activity within the Horn of Africa, especially Somalia.

This year’s edition will feature a keynote opening speech from Hon. Dr. Abdirizak Omar Mohamed, Minister of Petroleum & Mineral Resources, Federal Republic of Somalia, along with a Somalia National Showcase session.

Somalia’s natural resources sector is in the middle of profound transformations since the launch of the country’s first ever offshore licensing round in 2020.

Since then, Somalia has been open for business and welcomed new international companies. In 2022, independent Coastline Exploration committed to Somalia and to exploring the Somali Central Bank after the signing of seven production sharing agreements (PSA) covering deep-water areas.

Somali waters are believed to hold tremendous exploration potential and house several leads and prospects that could deliver significant oil & gas production in case of discoveries. It remains one of Africa’s least explored frontiers and increasing exploration activity in the region could yield tremendous success and transform Somalia’s energy landscape.

The Somalia National Showcase at AOW 2023 will welcome both presentations from Somalia’s Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, and from Coastline Exploration.

They join a growing list of stakeholders from the Horn of Africa attending AOW 2023 this year, including Hon. Abdilahi Farah Abdi, Minister of Energy and Minerals, Republic of Somaliland; Hon. Hassan Mohamud Siyad, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Hirshabelle State of Somalia; and Wahib Ali Boulo, Director General of the Société Internationale des Hydrocarbures de Djibouti (SIHD).
