AOW sincerely congratulates Minister Heineken Lokpobiri on being chosen to serve as Nigeria’s Minister of State for Petroleum Resources within the new administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. 

H.E. Heineken Lokpobiri is a recognized politician who hails from the Niger Delta and brings significant expertise navigating Nigeria’s political scene. 

His experience as a Senator and a former Minister will be an asset as he focuses on addressing critical issues to unlock the true potential of Nigeria’s petroleum industry. As a legal practitioner and environmental expert, he is well positioned to resolve several of the challenges currently affecting the sector. 

H.E. Heineken Lokpobiri’s leadership will be critical as Nigeria is in the middle of profound transformations following the adoption of the Petroleum Industry Act in 2021 and the recent removal of the country’s multi-billion dollars subsidies on gasoline. 

Amongst the many challenges he is expected to resolve, the war on crude theft and the conclusion of ongoing divestment programmes are likely to feature high on his agenda.
